BMJ Case Rep Published online: [please include Day Month Year] doi:10.1136/bcr-2013009103 DESCRIPTION A 26-year-old man was referred by his general practitioner as an urgent referral based on a 2-week history of a hard right testicular mass. There was no history of trauma, sexually transmitted infections or previous testicular surgery. On examination, a hard 2 cm irregular mass was palpable at the lower pole of the right testis. It was separate from the epididymis and scrotal wall. There was no clinically detectable hydrocoele. The left testis, epididymis and cord structures were normal. His serum α-feto protein , β-human chorionic gonadotropin and lactic dehydrogenase were normal. He had an ultrasound scan of the testis which revealed a 20 mm well-circumscribed ring-shaped intratesticular lesion in the lower pole of the testis with alternate hypoechoic and echogenic layers (onion skin appearance) and normal surrounding testis

Conservative surgical management of bilateral epidermoid cysts of the testis: a case report and review of literature.

Epidermoid cysts of the testis are benign tumor-like intratesticular masses. They are rare, representing less than 1% of all testicular tumors, and approximately 300 cases have been reported in the literature. Treatment of epidermoid cysts is controversial with the traditional treatment being radical orchidectomy. Awareness of this entity and the criteria for differential diagnosis will enhance...

Interphase fluorescence in situ hybridization analysis of chromosome 12p abnormalities is useful for distinguishing epidermoid cysts of the testis from pure mature teratoma.

PURPOSE The distinction of epidermoid cyst of the testis from teratoma is of critical importance because the former is benign and the latter is a malignant tumor that may have associated metastasis of either teratomatous or non-teratomatous germ cell tumor types. Chromosome 12p abnormalities are seen in the vast majority of testicular germ cell tumors of adults and are present in all histologic...

Intratesticular epidermoid cyst: is radiological diagnosis enough?

Intratesticular epidermoid cysts are rare solid tumorlike lesions. They constitute 1% of all testicular tumors. Major advances have been achieved during the last decades, shifting the management of epidermoid cysts to a more conservative approach. We present a case of a 20-year-old male who was referred to the urology department with a two-year history of a gradually increasing painless right-s...

Testicular epidermoid cyst: a case for conservative surgery.

We present two case reports of benign testicular epidermoid cysts, along with a review of the literature. This rare cause of intra-testicular swelling has often been treated by orchiectomy in the past. Evidence in the literature suggests a more conservative approach can be adopted safely, provided certain diagnostic criteria are observed. A 24-year-old man presented with a painless 2 cm nodule ...

Testicular epidermoid cyst: A rare case

Testicular epidermoid cysts are a rare cause of testicular pathology. No cases of recurrence or metastasis have been reported in the literature. As a result, inguinal partial orchiectomy with frozen section has recently become standard treatment. A 43-year-old male presented with right testicular discomfort and the presence of mass. Right inguinal partial orchiectomy with frozen section was per...

Testicular Epidermoid Cyst on Diffusion-Weighted MR Imaging and ADC Map : A Case Report

Epidermoid cyst is a rare benign tumor, which accounts for 1-2% of all testicular tumors (1). It can be cured by organ preserving surgery. We experienced a case of pathologically confirmed testicular epidermoid cyst, which showed typical onion ring appearance on ultrasonography (US) and high signal intensity with internal alternating low signal intensity patterns on T2-weighted magnetic resonan...
